Historic Naming of French Village: Residents Embrace Unique Identity
After nearly a millennium without a designated demonym, the 230 residents of Olley, a village in Meurthe-et-Moselle, have voted to adopt the name “Culs brûlés.” This unusual choice, linked to the village’s medieval oil production history, won by a majority in a recent vote. Mayor David Buono expressed pride in the community’s decision to honor their heritage. With over half of the 89 participants supporting the name, it will be officially recognized at the next municipal council meeting and sent to the prefecture for formal adoption.
