Greece Boosts Firefighting Workforce with New Recruitment Strategy
Greece is set to enhance its firefighting capabilities by recruiting over 1,600 seasonal firefighters by 2025. Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, announced age limits will remain at 40 for active firefighters, while increasing to 50 for drivers. The recruitment strategy will also benefit experienced seasonal firefighters through a points system, recognizing their anti-fire period service. Additionally, the government is exploring public sector roles for older seasonal firefighters in various civil protection and forestry services. This initiative aims to strengthen Greece’s response to natural disasters through improved personnel and resources.
