Tomiko Itooka, the World’s Oldest Person, Passes Away at 116
Tomiko Itooka, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest person, has died at the age of 116 in a nursing home in Ashiya, Japan. Born in May 1908, Itooka lived through significant historical events and was celebrated for her resilience. She was verified as the oldest living person in September 2024. Following her death, 116-year-old Brazilian nun Inah Canabarro Lucas is now believed to hold the title of the world’s oldest person. Itooka’s legacy includes two daughters, two sons, and five grandchildren.
