Hurricane Rafael Hits Cuba, Power Restoration Underway
Electricity restoration efforts began in Cuba following Hurricane Rafael, a Category 3 storm that struck the island on November 7. The hurricane caused extensive damage in Havana, Mayabeque, and Artemisa provinces, with winds reaching up to 185 km/h. Although the electrical system was already fragile, authorities are working quickly to assess and repair the damage. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. With the reopening of Havana’s airport, efforts are ongoing to clear debris and restore normalcy after the storm added to existing power challenges following Hurricane Oscar’s recent impact.
