Canadian Waterpark Faces Backlash Following Fifth Beluga Death
Marineland, a Canadian waterpark, is under scrutiny after the fifth beluga whale died within a year. This incident raises concerns about the park’s animal welfare practices, with 17 belugas reported dead since 2019. Although the provincial animal welfare inspector stated that water quality meets acceptable standards, troubling footage emerged showing veterinarians struggling to treat sick belugas. Marineland has faced criticism over the years, particularly for the solitary orca Kiska, dubbed the world’s loneliest orca, and recently incurred a fine for animal cruelty related to its black bears.
