Residents of Brienz Face Evacuation Amid Landslide Threat
The Swiss village of Brienz/Brienzauls is preparing for another evacuation due to the movement of 1.2 million cubic meters of debris threatening the community. Geologist Stefan Schneider warns that rains could accelerate the situation, increasing the risk of collapse. While controlled blasting was considered to mitigate the danger, safety and legal issues have made it impractical. Authorities are working on a drainage tunnel to slow the landslide, set for completion in 2027. Until then, uncertainty looms for the village’s 90 residents, who may face evacuation in the coming days as the threat level remains high.
