Tribute to Heroic General George Boutos at Annual Memorial in Cyprus
Dimitris Kouretas, the regional governor of Thessaly, attended an annual memorial honoring General George Boutos and the soldiers of the 286th Armored Battalion in Cyprus. General Boutos, Kouretas’ uncle, sacrificed his life during the Turkish invasion in 1974, leading the defense against paratroopers in Kyrenia. Kouretas emphasized the significance of heroism and duty, urging the continuation of their fight for a free Cyprus. He laid a wreath in memory of the fallen soldiers and engaged in discussions with Cypriot Defense Minister Vassilis Palma and National Guard Chief George Tsitsikostas.
