Over 600 French lawmakers have expressed strong opposition to the EU-Mercosur trade agreement, which aims to eliminate most tariffs between the regions. They raised concerns over potential health risks for consumers and unfair competition for local farmers. In a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the parliamentarians highlighted the need for compliance with environmental and health standards, stating that the current agreement fails to meet France’s conditions. The treaty, which could be signed during the upcoming G20 summit, aims to facilitate trade of agricultural products and vehicles between Europe and South America.
