PSNI Admits Failures in Katie Simpson Murder Investigation
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has acknowledged serious shortcomings in the investigation of 21-year-old showjumper Katie Simpson’s murder. Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck apologized, stating the case was initially treated as a suicide before being reclassified as a murder inquiry. A police ombudsman report highlighted a lack of rigor in the early investigation, leading to the conclusion that Simpson had taken her own life. Six officers face disciplinary action, while Beck emphasized the PSNI’s commitment to learning from these failures and improving responses to cases involving violence against women.
