Global CO2 Emissions Set to Rise Again Despite Climate Efforts
A new report from the Global Carbon Project reveals that global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels are projected to increase by 0.8% in 2024, reaching 37.4 gigatons. Key contributors include a 4.6% rise in emissions in India, whereas the EU sees a decrease of 3.8%. While there is a slight decline in emissions from coal in China, oil emissions are decreasing due to a shift to electric mobility. To meet international climate goals, emissions must fall significantly, as the current trajectory remains unsustainable, with the carbon budget expected to be exhausted this decade.
