Thessaloniki Modernizes Public Transport with New Bus Lease
On November 13, 2023, Greece’s Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras announced a three-year lease of 159 new buses for Thessaloniki’s public transport system, OASTH. This initiative will reduce the average age of buses from 14 to 7.3 years. Among the new fleet, 41 buses will be brand new, complementing the 110 electric buses introduced earlier this year. The plan aims to enhance the quality of public transport while making it more affordable, with ticket prices dropping to €0.60 and monthly passes costing €16. The new strategies aim to improve accessibility and combat fare evasion.
