Measures Implemented to Combat Sheep Pox in Anemotia, Greece
The Agricultural Association of Anemotia is taking proactive measures against the spread of sheep pox. Utilizing self-funding, members have installed disinfectant mats at village entrances and are regularly replenishing disinfectants. They urge local farmers to heed veterinary guidance to protect their livestock. However, the association’s president, Stavros Mantatis, highlighted financial strain on small farmers for long-term disinfectant purchases and called on the North Aegean Region to support these costs. He also criticized the lack of adequate veterinary staffing, vital for disease prevention, as one-third of Greek farmers cease farming after total herd loss.
