Massive Hikoi Protests in New Zealand Against Treaty Principles Bill

Thousands marched towards Wellington, New Zealand, in a hikoi to protest the controversial Treaty Principles Bill that seeks to reinterpret the Treaty of Waitangi, signed in 1840. The march, which has drawn around 10,000 participants in Rotorua alone, is in response to concerns that the bill undermines Indigenous Maori rights. Maori leaders actively demonstrated against the bill in parliament, with MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke leading a haka. While the ACT party proposed the bill, coalition partners have announced their lack of support for it beyond the initial reading, suggesting it may not progress further.
