New Reliquary for Crown of Thorns Set for Notre-Dame Cathedral
A modern reliquary designed by Sylvain Dubuisson will soon house the Crown of Thorns at Notre-Dame Cathedral, a relic of immense significance in Christianity. Comprising over a thousand pieces, the structure is currently being assembled in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and is scheduled for installation on November 19, 2024. The crown, traditionally believed to have been worn by Jesus during the crucifixion, has been safeguarded since a fire ravaged the cathedral in April 2019. This new installation aims to spiritually connect the past’s events with contemporary worship practices, showcasing a blend of artistic craftsmanship and historical reverence.
