On the 51st anniversary of the Polytechnic Uprising’s events in Athens, the island of Lesbos honors the struggle for democracy with various commemorative events. Among them is a tribute to Michalis Myrogiannis, a 20-year-old student killed during the uprising, whose memorial stands in the park of Agia Irini. A gathering will take place in Sappho Square, followed by a procession to lay flowers at his statue. The event aims to keep alive the memory of Myrogiannis and the ideals of the uprising, emphasizing the continued relevance of its slogans.
