Ahmad al-Chareh, formerly known as Abou Mohammed al-Joulani, has re-emerged as a prominent figure in post-Bashar al-Assad Syria. After years using a pseudonym linked to his jihadist past, he has adopted his birth name in a bid for legitimacy as a leader. Al-Chareh, who gained notoriety within the ranks of Al-Qaeda and later founded Hayat Tahir al-Sham, emphasizes a new approach advocating for coexistence and minority protection in Syria amid a transitional government.
