Dutch retail chain Blokker has been declared bankrupt after an earlier payment deferment. The company’s nearly 400 stores in the Netherlands will remain open temporarily, employing around 3,500 workers. Blokker has struggled against fierce competition from discount retailers and has failed to establish a strong online presence. Financial challenges intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to significant tax debts that contributed to its decline.
