Californian Officials Urge Evacuations Amid Escalating Mountain Fire

California authorities issued evacuation orders for thousands as the ‘Mountain Fire’ intensifies in the hills northwest of Los Angeles. The blaze, which ignited near Camarillo, has charred over 8,300 hectares and threatens more than 3,500 homes. Currently only 5% contained, the fire’s rapid spread has been fueled by winds reaching 130 km/h. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency, with initial reports estimating 132 houses destroyed. Following two wet winters, the state faces an active fire season marked by dry vegetation and heat waves, further exacerbated by climate change.
