Crisis at Rethymno Children’s Mental Health Center Highlights Staff Shortages
The Rethymno Children’s and Adolescent Mental Health Center is facing a critical staffing crisis, as reported by the ‘People’s Rally’ in a recent query to the Crete Regional Council. With around 1,200 children and their families under its care, the center operates with just one nurse who also performs secretarial duties, a part-time health visitor, and only one child psychiatrist. The situation is worsened by the lack of child psychiatrists in nearby regions, leading to overwhelming demands on the existing staff. This issue underscores the urgent need for increased mental health resources in Crete.
