DB Cargo Announces Major Job Cuts Due to Losses and EU Regulations

DB Cargo, the freight division of Deutsche Bahn, plans to cut 5,000 jobs by 2029, exceeding previous estimates. This decision is driven by ongoing losses and new EU Commission regulations. CEO Sigrid Nikutta mentioned that much of the reduction will occur through natural attrition, as many employees from the baby boomer generation retire. Recently, DB Cargo reached an agreement to cut 2,300 positions, but further layoffs are anticipated as the company struggles to return to profitability before 2026.
