Denmark Launches World’s Largest Sea Water Heat Pump: A Potential Model for Germany
Denmark has inaugurated the world’s largest industrial heat pump utilizing sea water, aiming to provide heat for 100,000 people without fossil fuels. This facility replaces a coal power plant in Esbjerg and will supply 280,000 megawatt-hours of heat annually to 25,000 households. Experts suggest that such systems, especially when integrated with existing district heating networks, could enhance energy efficiency. While only a few German cities have implemented similar large heat pump technologies, the need for stable energy policies is emphasized to advance Germany’s energy transition.
