Devastating Wildfires in Los Angeles Claim Lives and Destroy Thousands of Homes
Since January 7, at least five people have lost their lives due to uncontrolled wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles. Mayor Karen Bass describes the situation as a ‘firestorm,’ with the Pacific Palisades fire consuming nearly 7,000 hectares and over 1,000 buildings destroyed. Mandatory evacuations are in effect for numerous neighborhoods, and more than 130,000 residents have been urged to flee as firefighters continue to battle multiple blazes across the region.
