Diergaarde Blijdorp has euthanized Lalana, a fifteen-year-old Asian lioness, due to feline leukemia virus complications. After a sudden decline in health last Friday, the decision was made in consultation with the veterinarian. Lalana was one of the last two Asian lions in the zoo, alongside male lion Wishu, whose health is now being monitored for the virus. The Asian lion species remains endangered, with efforts in place to preserve their numbers globally.
