The Governor of the Northern Aegean, Konstantinos Moutzouris, announced plans to extend travel visa provisions for non-Schengen visitors, including those from Turkey, for the next year. Following assurances from a senior government source in Chios, the proposal will be presented to the European Union in due course. This request was previously echoed by the President of the Federation of Northern Aegean Municipalities, Mayor Taxiarchis Verros, in letters to various ministers. Since its launch in April, the fast-track visa system has significantly increased tourist arrivals to ten Eastern Aegean islands, surpassing expectations.
