Failures in ‘Ask for Angela’ Scheme Put Vulnerable Women at Risk, BBC Investigation Reveals
A BBC undercover investigation uncovered significant failures in the ‘Ask for Angela’ safety scheme, designed to help individuals feeling unsafe at participating venues. Many pub staff were unaware or inadequately trained on the initiative, jeopardizing the safety of vulnerable women. London Mayor Sadiq Khan and others expressed concern over the findings. Out of 25 venues tested, 13 failed to respond properly to requests for help using the code word. The scheme, launched in 2016, aims to provide a discreet lifeline but has been criticized for ineffective implementation.
