Finland Investigates Russian Oil Tanker Amid Suspicions of Sabotage
Finnish authorities are investigating the oil tanker Eagle S, believed to be involved in an underwater cable disruption and suspected of illegally exporting oil from Russia, circumventing Western sanctions. The investigation was announced following a power outage in the EstLink 2 connection between Finland and Estonia. Eagle S, which carries flags from the Cook Islands, is linked to a ‘ghost fleet’ of vessels used by Moscow. Finnish President Alexander Stubb urged the removal of risks posed by such vessels in light of their role in oil exports amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
