First Woman in Greece Undergoes HPV-DNA Test as Part of National Cancer Prevention Program

In a landmark moment for cancer prevention in Greece, 32-year-old Sofia became the first woman to receive the HPV-DNA test at a public health facility in Thessaloniki, under the ‘PROLAVANO’ program. Encouraged by a notification from the health ministry, Sofia emphasized the importance of early detection for saving lives. Health officials from the 3rd Health Region highlighted the significance of preventive measures, noting that approximately 2.6 million women are eligible for these free tests. The program aims to reduce cervical cancer rates linked to HPV through widespread testing and vaccination efforts.
