France Axes Electric Vehicle Incentives: Conversion Bonus Elimination
The French government has announced the discontinuation of the vehicle conversion bonus in the 2025 budget, which helped buyers trade in old cars for eco-friendly alternatives. Instead, the focus will shift to maintaining the ecological bonus, ranging from €4,000 to €7,000 based on income, aimed at encouraging electric vehicle adoption. For low-income households, social leasing options will remain available. Since 2018, over a million conversion bonuses have been distributed, primarily benefiting rural families as the average scrapped vehicle was 19 years old and predominantly diesel.
