France Narrows Student Sports Initiative to Underperforming Schools
After a two-year trial, France’s Ministry of National Education announced a reduction in the expansion of additional weekly sports hours for middle school students. Initially tested in over 700 schools, the program aimed to enhance sports participation among disengaged students. However, the ministry deemed its generalization across all schools as unsustainable due to implementation challenges. Moving forward, the additional two hours of physical activity will only be available in REP/REP+ colleges, where participation rates are lower, while focusing on fostering a more engaged school community.
