Fukushima Nuclear Plant Begins Fuel Extraction Process After 13 Years

More than 13 years after the Fukushima disaster, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has successfully extracted a small piece of nuclear fuel from one of the reactors. Weighing only 0.7 grams, this tiny sample marks a significant step towards decommissioning the plant. Experts warn that the process will be lengthy and complex, with around 880 tons of radioactive material still in the reactors. Despite the challenges, Japan’s government continues to support nuclear energy, emphasizing the importance of fuel extraction for safety and public confidence.
