Greece Expands Environmental Workforce to Boost Biodiversity Protection
The Greek Ministry of Environment has created 34 new scientist positions within the Organization for the Natural Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA) to enhance the supervision and protection of marine areas in the Natura 2000 network. Officially announced in the updated organizational chart published on November 5, 2024, the move aims to fulfill objectives outlined in the European Biodiversity Strategy. With these additions, OFYPEKA’s total staff reaches 400, focusing on experts in environmental science and marine biology, especially to support the management of recently announced marine parks.
