Greece Implements AI Act with New Regulatory Authorities
Greece’s Digital Governance Ministry has published a list of national authorities overseeing compliance with the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act, aimed at protecting citizens’ fundamental rights, including non-discrimination during high-risk AI use. This marks Greece’s first national obligation under the Act. Key authorities include the Personal Data Protection Authority, the Ombudsman, and the National Commission for Human Rights, which will gain enhanced powers from August 2026 to ensure compliance. The AI Act, effective from August 2024, establishes a comprehensive legal framework for AI at an international level.
