Greece Implements Smoking Cessation Helpline Amidst High Smoking Rates
The Hellenic National Public Health Organization (EODY) will launch a smoking cessation helpline to combat Greece’s alarming smoking rates, which stand at 38% of the population. Despite a decline in traditional cigarette use over the past decade, Greece remains a leader in smoking prevalence in Europe. EODY President Christos Chatzichristodoulou outlines plans for targeted actions, including a new study on smoking in children, reinforcements for cessation clinics, and campaigns to promote public awareness. The goal is to reduce smoking rates to 5% by 2040.
