Greece Initiates Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production Plans
Greece’s Ministry of Environment and Energy is spearheading a plan for producing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) to meet EU legislative requirements. Deputy Minister Alexandras Sdoukou announced that a request for state support for necessary investments has been submitted to the EU’s Competition Directorate. Starting in 2025, a 2% blend of SAF will be mandatory in aviation fuel, rising to 6% by 2030, including a 1.2% requirement for e-fuels. While the goal is to boost local production, current SAF and e-fuel production costs remain significantly higher than conventional fuels.
