Greece Promotes Increased Producer Participation in Local Markets
Greek Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos announced plans to enhance producer participation in local markets to increase competition and lower prices for consumers. Discussions are underway to allow open-air markets to operate in the evenings, facilitating accessibility for both producers and consumers. Secretary General of Commerce and Consumer Protection Sotiris Anagnostopoulos highlighted that the goal is to create a direct relationship between farmers and consumers while addressing procedural challenges related to new markets. Existing local markets already number around 1,000 nationwide.
