Greece Tackles Child Obesity with Healthier School Snack Policies
Greece’s Ministry of Health is revising school cafeteria guidelines to promote healthier eating habits among students. New regulations will limit salt and sugar in products and increase oversight on deli meats, set to take effect in the upcoming school year. This initiative responds to concerning statistics from the Greek Statistical Authority, revealing that 31% of children aged 6-9 are overweight or obese, a significant issue within the EU. Additionally, one in five children faces social exclusion or poverty, highlighting the urgent need for nutritional reforms.
