Greek Hotel Industry Faces New Climate Tax Challenges
Giannis Chatzis, President of the Greek Hotel Federation, discussed the impact of a newly renamed climate resilience tax during an appearance on ERT3. Originally established in 2016, the tax now funnels funds into a disaster relief fund, but Chatzis argues that the burden should not solely rest on the hotel sector. He highlighted discrepancies in taxation between hotels and short-term rentals, while expressing cautious optimism about current booking trends in Greece, which are indicative of lower prices but don’t guarantee increased revenue for the next year.
