Greek Municipal Water Utilities Push Back Against Centralized Control
During a special assembly in Athens, Lazaros Kyrizoglou, President of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), criticized the Ministry of Environment’s proposal for large regional water utilities. Instead, he advocated for one utility per prefecture, emphasizing local governance. Kyrizoglou expressed disappointment over the lack of an official funding proposal from the ministry, despite earlier commitments. He highlighted the importance of municipal control over water resources and called for proper management of funds aimed at combating water scarcity rather than other municipal projects.
