Groningen Hospital Steps Up to Address IV Fluid Shortage in Netherlands
The Martini Hospital in Groningen plans to produce more intravenous (IV) fluid bags to help mitigate the ongoing national shortage. Due to severe damage from Hurricane Helene, Baxter’s production facility in North Carolina has led to a significant drop in supply, affecting hospitals across the Netherlands. Hospital pharmacist René van Hulst stated the facility is setting aside resources to produce IVs for both its own use and for other hospitals. However, scaling up production remains challenging, with the shortage anticipated to continue until mid-January.
