Guadeloupe Faces Dengue Epidemic as Rare Virus Strain Emerges
Guadeloupe has entered an epidemic phase for dengue fever, driven by a rare serotype, DENV3, raising concerns about severe cases. Local authorities are urging all stakeholders to mobilize efforts to mitigate the disease’s impact. Recent analyses show that DENV3 accounts for 97% of dengue samples, with reported cases soaring to 540 by the end of October. In response, officials recommend measures to eliminate stagnant water, wear protective clothing, and use approved repellents. Additionally, a new mosquito species capable of transmitting multiple viral diseases has been identified in the region.
