Historic Discovery: 132-Year-Old Message in a Bottle Found in Scottish Lighthouse
A remarkable finding at Corsewall Lighthouse in Scotland has revealed a 132-year-old message in a bottle, marking a first for lighthouses in the region. Mechanical engineer Ross Russell uncovered the bottle during an inspection, containing a letter written on September 4, 1892, by engineers who modernized the lighthouse. The bottle, difficult to retrieve due to its rusted cork and unusual shape, was eventually opened by lighthouse keeper Barry Miller, who expressed sheer excitement at connecting with the past through this tangible artifact. The engineers plan to preserve the historical find while leaving their own message inside.
