Humanitarian Crisis Forces Thousands to Flee Port-au-Prince, Haiti
Over 20,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in four days due to escalating gang violence and a dire humanitarian situation, as reported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The displacement is the largest seen since August 2023, with 17,000 individuals already in temporary shelters. The situation has worsened following the U.S. FAA’s ban on commercial flights to the city amid ongoing violence. The newly appointed Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fil’s-Emé, vows to restore security and organize elections in a country grappling with chronic instability.
