Residents of Gelderland and Noord-Brabant are facing a surge in freight train traffic due to upcoming works on the Betuwelijn, which connects the Rotterdam port to Germany. As new 70 km of track is laid in Germany, the Betuwelijn will be partially closed for 20 weeks, redirecting more freight trains onto alternate routes. While the government has introduced measures to mitigate disturbances, many locals report ongoing issues with noise and vibrations. Concerns over structural damage to homes have also been raised, positioning residents against the impending disruptions.
