Majority of Germans Support Early Bundestag Elections Amid Coalition Crisis

A recent ARD-DeutschlandTrend survey reveals that 53% of Germans favor early Bundestag elections following Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s announcement of a confidence vote after the coalition’s breakdown. Support for early elections is particularly strong among AfD voters (88%), BSW supporters (82%), and CDU members (68%). Meanwhile, 40% prefer the current coalition to remain in power until the next scheduled elections. Notably, 25% of SPD voters and 18% of Greens voters also support calling for early elections, highlighting a diverse range of opinions among the electorate.
