Majority of UK General Practitioners Experience Empathy Fatigue, Survey Finds

A recent survey by the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland revealed that 71% of general practitioners in the UK suffer from empathy fatigue, impacting patient-care relationships. This issue is more pronounced among younger doctors aged 25-34. The survey also highlighted concerning mental health trends within the profession, with 21% of doctors contemplating self-harm and many experiencing aggression from patients. The newly elected Labour government is prioritizing the improvement of the NHS, promising to release £22.6 billion in resources by 2026.
