Mencap Warns of Service Cuts Due to Rising National Insurance Costs
Mencap, a charity supporting individuals with learning disabilities, warns it may have to cease operation of at least 60 services due to increased National Insurance contributions and rising minimum wage costs from the recent Budget. The charity anticipates an annual hit of £18 million, leading to potential job losses for over 400 employees and reduced care for approximately 200 individuals. Local authorities, which primarily fund these services, are also facing financial challenges, raising concerns about the sustainability of adult social care in England.
