Mental Health Crisis: France Reports Highest Depression Rates in Western Europe
A recent study by Drees reveals that prior to the Covid crisis, Western and Northern Europe experienced higher depression rates compared to Southern and Eastern Europe, with France reporting the highest at 11%. The study highlights significant disparities across regions and demographics, noting that women are at a higher risk of depression across all ages. Overall, around 6% of the European population showed depressive symptoms in 2019, with varying prevalence in different countries, particularly low rates in Southern and Eastern Europe.
