Mount Fuji Finally Receives Snow After Record Delay
Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest peak, has regained its iconic snow-capped summit after an unprecedented delay in snowfall this year. Following Japan’s hottest summer on record, with average temperatures 1.76 degrees Celsius above normal, the mountain had been snowless longer than ever documented in 130 years. Snowfall usually starts in early October, but this year it was notably absent until the end of October. Although flurries are forecast this week, experts remain uncertain about the reasons for the delayed snow on the active volcano, according to Mamoru Matsumoto from the Kofu Observatory.
