New Clade 1b Mpox Cases Emerge in London: Health Officials Respond
Health officials in London have reported two new cases of the Clade 1b variant of the mpox virus, a more transmissible strain. These individuals, linked to the first patient identified last week, are receiving specialist care at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. UKHSA Chief Medical Adviser Prof. Susan Hopkins emphasized that while the virus can spread quickly within households, the overall risk to the UK public remains low. Authorities are actively identifying and contacting all potential contacts to prevent further transmission.
