New Driving License for 16-Year-Olds: A Step Towards Safer Mobility

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska announced that minors aged 16 and older can now obtain a B1 driving license for electric vehicles, with a maximum speed of 90 km/h and weight of 400 kg. This initiative, part of the Safety Strategy 2030, aims to enhance mobility for youth, especially in rural areas, and align with successful practices from countries like France. The strategy also includes measures to halve traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2030, integrate mobility education into school curriculums, and modernize driver fitness assessments and regulations.
